Korean Peninsula Diplomacy: Chinese president welcomes DPRK leader in Beijing

We begin in Beijing, where Chinese President Xi Jinping Tuesday has held a welcoming ceremony for Kim Jong Un, the chairman of the DPRK's State Affairs Commission and chairman of the Korean Workers' Party. The two leaders held talks and agreed to safeguard, consolidate and develop bilateral relations. They also agreed to jointly push forward the sound momentum of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and make a positive contribution to safeguarding world and regional peace, stability, prosperity and development.

It's only a week since Kim's historic meeting with US President Donald Trump in Singapore.
During the talks, Xi Jinping hailed the Singapore Summit as a significant meeting. He said Chairman Kim has contributed a great deal to denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula. And he said the Korean Peninsula issue is back on the track of dialogue and consultation. He welcomed the agreement to work toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and hopes the DPRK and the US will implement the agreement reached at the summit.
Kim agreed that the meeting with Trump had a positive outcome. He said if the two sides can firmly implement the consensus reached at the summit, it will create a new situation for denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The DPRK leader thanked China for its important role in promoting the denuclearization of the peninsula. He said the DPRK wants to work with China and relevant parties to promote a durable and solid peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula.
Meanwhile, the two sides also agreed to safeguard, consolidate and develop China-DPRK relations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed the frequent visits by Kim Jong Un this year, saying bilateral relations have entered a new chapter. He said China will remain committed to strengthening their solid relationship and maintaining their friendship with the DPRK.
Kim Jong Un said China is a great neighbour of the DPRK, and President Xi is trusted and respected by the DPRK. He said the DPRK values China's friendship and support. Pyongyang will implement the consensus reached between the two countries, and promote relations between the two sides to a new level.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's opening up, and Xi Jinping said China is very glad to see the DPRK shifting its goal to economic development.
