Ch'in Melody, or Qinqiang Opera, enjoys large audiences in China's mid-western provinces. More than 20 Plum Blossom Prize winners from the country's northwestern regions recently performed in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province. Qi Jie has more.

Qinqiang Opera is the representative folk Chinese opera of the northwest province Shaanxi, where it was called Qin thousands of years ago. Its melodies originated from rural areas of ancient Shaanxi and Gansu. The word "qiang" itself means "the tune of Qin".
