As a former US ambassador to China, Gary Locke thinks Xi Jinping is a very charismatic leader.
“He is very self-confident, very at ease in his meetings with world leaders, he's not tied to notes and a script,” he said.
Locke added that Xi certainly has his talking points and things he wants to convey to other people, but he does so in a very relaxed manner.
He also pointed out Xi is constantly drawing upon history as well as lessons and observations from his father, who was a great leader, and also a colleague of Chairman Mao.
Referencing Xi Jinping's achievements thus far, Locke said, “I think he has really done well in that position. He is really focusing on internationalism and globalization,” he added.
