Rescue operations are underway to locate a dozen Chinese crew members in the Strait of Malacca.
They went missing after their sand mining vessel capsized Wednesday off western Malaysia. The Chinese embassy in Malaysia said knocks could be heard on Thursday morning as rescuers were pumping air into the vessel.
16 Chinese nationals were aboard the ship when it sank. Officials say one person has been confirmed dead and three others that were rescued are in a stable condition. Malaysian naval forces are involved in the rescue effort, while 7 Chinese rescuers have been sent to Malaysia.
