The European Union is calling for a swift investigation into the terrorist attack in Tripoli. Libya's Health Ministry says at least 14 people were killed in the suicide attack at the headquarters of the country's election commission. Our Europe correspondent Jack Parrock reports.
Shortly after the attack the spokesperson for the European Union's foreign policy wing released a statement saying the attack must be investigated and expressing the EU's condolences to the families of the victims.
The attack came only a day after the EU high representative Federica Mogherini said she felt the situation in Libya was improving - using the call for the election as proof.
Brussels has recommitted its support to the UN mediation process in Libya and says the right of the Libyan citizens to express their vote is fundamental in shaping the country's future.
The European Union is cooperating with Libya over the migration crisis with Italian coastguards training their Libyan counterparts to return asylum seekers on smugglers boats back to the Libyan coast.
ISIS has claimed the attack on the headquarters of the electoral commission in Tripoli and the EU will be concerned that that terror group will add to security concerns surrounding the election for which no date has yet been set.
