CES Asia 2018: Smarter and cleaner cars expected to dominate the market

The 4th CES Asia is being held in Shanghai from June 13th to 15th. This year's event features the latest bells and whistles in-vehicle technology. CGTN'S Wu Lei was there and brings us more.
Smart and electric cars are perhaps some of the most expensive and entertaining consumer electronics products. And CES ASIA has become a great platform for automakers to launch their new technology. The electric-car startup Byton unveiled K-byte, a new concept autonomous car this year.
CARSTEN BREITFELD CEO, BYTON "So this is the show car for potential sedan which could come to the market by the beginning of 2021. So our market strategy is we are going to the market by the end of next year, with our SUV in China here, China will be our biggest market."
Indeed, China has been the world's largest car market for years. Many say this is the perfect market for the advancements in self-driving technology.
WU LEI SHANGHAI "For all smart cars, passenger safety is the top priority. And these automakers have been upgrading their technology to improve the driving experience."
JACOB TRETTER, PROGRAM ENGINEERING MANAGER CADILLAC, GENERAL MOTORS "We actually have inforotmeters on the stirring wheel so we can see through sunglasses, we can see people's faces at night, so we know exactly how long the driver has been looking away from the road, we can bring them back with gentle reminders, we can flash the light bar green to basically bring the driver back to pay the attention the road system."
A total of 56 domestic and global automotive exhibitors are showcasing their latest breakthroughs.
TOMOYA YAMAKAWA, CORPORATE EXECUTIVE MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORPORATION "We found there are two major trends in the auto industry now. One is electric cars. Being environmentally friendly is becoming increasingly important. The other is the human machine interaction in the age of autonomous driving."
These smart cars are a mixture of technology and mobility, and consumers are expecting safer and more connected vehicles and mobility solutions. Automakers and tech companies are now working closer to meet the growing demand. WL, CGTN SH.
