Now for some very graceful and intricate eye-candy, we turn to Paris, where the Haute Couture Week has finished in spectacular fashion. Fendi presented a ladylike collection of shimmering sequins and feminine ruffles, while Valentino brought an eye-popping show later that day.
Lush textures of chiffons, cashmeres and minks made their way down the runway in pastel pinks and purples.
There were also vibrant pops of yellow and orange on elegant dresses and bright graphic and patchwork designs on colorful blouse- and skirt-sets.
The Rome-based fashion house Fendi has long been known for its furs, and has continued to put them forward at a time when many other brands are dropping the material from collections, under pressure from changing consumer tastes and animal rights campaigners.
The Fendi show was octogenarian German designer Karl Lagerfeld's second appearance at Haute Couture Week in Paris - the season of fashion shows celebrating one-off creations by a select group of houses.
Lagerfeld, who forms half of the creative duo at Fendi -- along with the founding family's scion Silvia Venturini Fendi -- also presented his latest designs at France's Chanel on Wednesday, against an elaborate catwalk backdrop that recreated Parisian street scenes.
Also making a splash in Paris this week were bold and flashy colors from Italian fashion house Valentino, from orange-magenta to eye-catching chartreuse. There were long capes and long coats, scarves and sequins. Sculpted silk ballgowns came in metres and metres of brightly shimmering material.
Some models wore their hair sprayed stiff and high like a 1950s-style bouffant, while others had bouquets of silk flowers as dramatic caps.
