Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Monday said he hoped Japan could live up to its words in improving China-Japan relations.
Wang made the remarks after his meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit foreign minsters' meeting.
The deep-rooted challenges facing bilateral relations in the past year involve uncertainty about whether Japan really takes China as its cooperative partner and accepts the rise of China, Wang said. "Japan should not express its willingness to improve relations while making troubles at every turn," he added.
Toro Kono said China and Japan could jointly contribute to the development of Asia and world peace. He also expressed his hope that the two sides could enhance communication and promote mutual understanding so as to improve bilateral ties.
Wang also reaffirmed China's stance on the South China Sea issue, urging the Japanese side to respect the stabilized situation in the area and cherish the efforts made by China and ASEAN countries.
