The fog appears during the shift from the scorching summer to the moderately cooler winter. As the cool air of the night meets the hot humidity of the daytime, fog forms in the early hours, blanketing Dubai in a thick haze.

In addition to the seasonality of this unique weather phenomenon, the timing of taking this kind of photograph is critical as well, since the fog tends to burn off by 9 a.m. and generally becomes too thick to shoot by 7 a.m..

The city has no shortage of skyscrapers, but only 15 to 20 of them are high enough to peek through the clouds, with most of these enormous buildings private apartments or hotels.

Despite the beautiful scenes, there are some disadvantages of this amazing phenomenon - dozens of flights to and from Dubai were reported as delayed or cancelled due to the foggy weather in the first few days of 2017.

The Flydubai airline had earlier cancelled 21 trips on New Year’s Eve, with the first week of the year usually one of the busiest times for UAE airport operations.
