The Chinese Spring Festival falls on February 16 this year. And as usual, with the final round of rehearsals underway, the Spring Festival Gala hosted by China Central Television (CCTV), has become a trending topic on Chinese social media.

Despite being the most-watched television show in the world with at least 700 million viewers every year, the Gala has been more of a tradition for people in China. However, director Yang Dongsheng, revealed that this year's event could be the most “international” Gala ever.

While backstage, CGTN met with some of the performers for this year's extravaganza. The actors and performers for this year’s gala come from many countries and regions, including Russia, Italy, Egypt, the US and Kenya. Most of them will bring their dances and songs to the stage, and for the first time ever, international actors will participate in a sketch comedy, which is the most popular genre in the Gala.
