After much anticipation, The National Museum of Serbia has finally REOPENED its doors, making its valuable artifacts of Serbian and European heritage available once again to art lovers. Have a look.
Located in central Belgrade, the National Museum of Serbia is the largest and oldest museum in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. Since its establishment in 1844, it has acquired almost 400,000 items, including many foreign masterpieces. However, the museum had to shut down 15 years ago, in desperate need of renovation. Its treasures were relocated, or put in storage. Although the main hall occasionally exhibited some modern art pieces, the museum's permanent collections have been out of sight for more than a decade. The museum was declared a Monument of Great Cultural Importance in 1979. It boasts three thousand oil paintings and more than 900 sculptures.
ALEKSANDAR VUCIC SERBIAN PRESIDENT "Apart from Serbian, we also offer English, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgaria, Russian and Chinese in our tour guides. Cultural tourism will draw lots of people to our country, which will bring more trade opportunities and job possibilities to our country."
The museum was accessible to visitors through the night for three days after its opening, while entry was also free of charge.
