China-US Trade Frictions: Trump trade policy could potentially hit industries in both countries

Under Trump's new tariffs, thousands of Chinese industries will be the targeted. WTO data shows machinery and electrical equipment are China's main exports to the US, which accounted for 262 billion US dollars in 2016.
The move also provoked a global backlash. The US Commerce department says the nation's exports to China supported more than 900-thousand jobs in 2015.
In 2016, the US sold 21 billion dollars worth of farm products to China. Given that figure, the biggest loser could be American farmers and workers.
Steel has been a focus of Trump's push for tariffs. According to World Steel, China is the world's largest producer of steel. In 2017 China produced 831 million metric tons of steel. And most of it is used domestically, only about 9%-- 75 million tons-- was exported in 2017.
The top five countries who exported steel to the US in 2017 were Canada, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico and Russia. China only ranks 10th, accounting for 2 % of imported steel.
