China's Ministry of Civil Affairs says it has combined social security measures with the country's campaign against poverty. Minister Huang Shuxian said hundreds of billions of yuan have been allocated for poverty-stricken people across the nation.
"Rural subsistence systems are connected with poverty alleviation work. The standard for assistance in urban and rural areas were raised by 59 percent and 97 percent, respectively, with a total spending of 731.7 billion yuan. Nearly 60,000 subsistence receivers and people with severe difficulties have effective guarantee for their basic living."
