An unnamed spokesperson from the Chinese Commerce Ministry on Tuesday said the US classifying China as a “non-market economy” is a serious distortion of the facts.
The US Commerce Department said in a memo on Monday that “non-market conditions prevail in the operation of China’s economy.”
The memo reviewing China’s market status is part of anti-dumping probe into the imports of Chinese aluminum foil products.
The spokesperson said that China established and has improved its socialist market economy system since its reform and opening-up, which has been widely praised in the international community.
The US adoption of a surrogate country approach in the probe has violated its international obligations under Section 15 of the accession protocol formulated by the WTO and China in 2001, the statement said.
“China urges the US to fulfill its international obligations and correct its mistaken methods,” the spokesman said.
“The Chinese government will adopt necessary measures to ensure the legal rights and interests of Chinese companies and reserve relevant rights under the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism."
