Known as the “moving killer” and “white ghost,” agglomerate fog, severe weather that often occurs on highways, causes many road accidents in China.
To reduce the incidence of accidents, an online map was released this month by traffic police in northern China's Shanxi Province to show drivers where agglomerate fog is most likely to form.
The map indicates highway sections in Shanxi Province hit by thick fog more than 20 times annually.

By checking the map online, drivers can get details about the highway, starting and ending points of agglomerate fog areas, month prevalence and annual average occurrence.
Along with the map, local traffic police also provide information on fog formation, visibility and high-occurrence times, as well as tips for driving under heavy mist.
Shanxi police also say that newly emerged agglomerate fog sections will be updated on its website as necessary.
