International Solar Summit Begins: Finding alternative energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels

French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have co-hosted the first International Solar Alliance summit in New Delhi Sunday. The summit aims to accelerate the use of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The summit is being attended by 23 heads of state.    
Early Sunday morning dignitaries from over 45 nations started arriving to participate in the formal launch of the International Solar Alliance or ISA. These nations are all harness the sun to brighten global future. With 121 member nations, the alliance aims to exploit solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.      
NARENDRA MODI PRIME MINISTER, INDIA "I have 10 action points in my mind. The first is that we have to ensure better and economic solar energy is made available to all. We have to encourage innovation and increase our solar energy production. Other points call for concessional financing, affordable technology to raise share of solar electricity in energy mix."
The summit organized in Delhi is being co-hosted by India and France and aims to mobilise $1 trillion of investments needed by 2030 for increasing access of solar energy. It will focus on mitigating the effects of climate change with the use of renewable energy. The solar alliance is working for deployment of over 1,000 GW of solar energy and 50 projects will be signed during this summit.
It is being viewed as a huge diplomatic victory for India. By organizing this summit India has taken a leadership role in the field of climate change. This idea was conceptualized in 2015 and today it has seeing the light of the day. Ravinder Bawa, CGTN, Delhi.
