With millions of tourists and business travelers coming to China every year, China is ranked as the fourth most popular destination in the world by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, with safety playing a major role in supporting the inflow of people.
“In recent years, inbound tourism has picked up, the increase is mostly related to Asian countries for inbound. In comparison with some countries in the region, China definitely is considered very safe. Health and safety are two key elements for people to make decision to travel.” said Kris Van Goethem, a director for Thomas Cook China, a travel agency from the UK.
In addition, according to the latest Travel Risk Map 2018 published by International SOS and Control Risks, China remains a low risk country for expats and business travelers.

“In China, the risk level has been really steady in the past few years. Authority has maintained effective control over destabilizing factors. We've seen very low violent crime rate and rare evidence of any extreme or terrorist activities in China. We also noticed in China the police authority and the government have utilized whatever means possible and available to maintain a  stable and safe environment for any international or business travelers into China. We've seen the latest development and utilization of technology. We see a massive mobilization in the general population against any threats or disturbing criminal activities,“ said Tony Ma, the China client liaison director for International SOS and Control Risks.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, there were more than 60 million trips to China made by people from other countries in 2017.
