He has been described as a hero. Fifteen-year-old Peter Wang died in the Parkland school shooting in Florida last week, taking bullets while saving others, as CGTN’s Nitza Soledad Perez reports.
He was one of 17 people killed in the shooting, while many more were injured. Wearing the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps uniform he treasured, he was holding the door to help other students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School escape when he was shot repeatedly.
The US Army has now awarded him with a posthumous medal for his heroism, while the US Military Academy at West Point – which he dreamed of one day joining –  posthumously admitted Peter to the class of 2025.
At his funeral, a group of veterans paid tribute to a hero, while friends and family described him as the nicest person they knew.
Surviving Parkland students are now headed to Florida’s state capital to urge lawmakers to implement stricter gun control laws.
One of their weapons is social media and the powerful hashtag: #NeverAgain.
