Beijing is hosting a cooperation forum with Africa next month. And with the event fast approaching, my colleague Tian Wei sat down with Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He said relations between China and Zimbabwe have progressed from friendship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
TIAN WEI CGTN "People are very excited here in China about your trip, because we saw you together with Chinese President Xi Jinping talking ardently to one another, and in-depth discussion. We understand there's also a series of fruitful cooperation already coming out, when it comes to this future development of the relationship, but Mr. President, at the same time, people wonder why there are others who might not necessarily give positive feedbacks about the friendship between China and the African countries, there seems to be always someone talking in a very different tune. I just wonder your view about these different voices."
EMMERSON MNANGAGWA PRESIDENT OF ZIMBABWE "The first part relates to bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China, our relations have now escalated from the level of friendship between two countries to a level where we are now having comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation. So to us, this is a plus."
TIAN WEI CGTN "We talk about this cooperation, sometimes even when it comes to aid, and fund and also comes to the project to provide financial support, there were talks coming from some institutions or countries, suggesting China was adding debts to African countries, China was giving African countries even heavier financial burden, as a result providing aids earlier. How do you see this kind of 'accusations'?"
