Taxes on imported cars and parts are stoking new tensions between China and the United States. President Donald Trump is threatening to impose 25-percent tariffs, while China announced its cut tariffs on imported vehicles and parts. China is objecting to America's latest threat, saying it's abusing the so-called "national security clause."
LU KANG CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN "The Ministry of Commerce has already expressed its stance on the issue. We have also noted the relevant US remarks and reports. China is opposed to abuse of the so-called "national security" clause, which will severely destroy the multilateral trade regime and break the normal international trade order. China will keep a close eye on the development of the US investigation, and evaluate its possible influences in all aspects. China will resolutely safeguard its legitimate interests and rights."
