In recent years, sexual harassment against children has been getting more attention from the public and related cases have increasingly been reported by the media.
The Girls Protection Funds of the China Foundation of Culture and Arts for Children published a report looking into sexual harassment against children in 2017 on Friday, which was its fifth such report, unveiling that acquaintances were responsible for a majority of the crimes while girls are still the primary victims.
Figures from the report came from the publicly reported cases of child sexual harassment in China over the past year, reported China News.
The report showed that 378 cases in total were publicly reported by the media last year, which involved 606 children. Among all the child victims, female children took up 90.4 percent.
Male children, though taking up a smaller proportion, still suffered from sexual harassment.

But who are the criminals? Among all the cases in the report, those harassed by acquaintances took up about 60 percent, while crimes committed by strangers took up the rest.
The report also revealed that sexual harassment usually took place in the victim's or the perpetrator's residences and public places such as schools.
Investigation by the Funds showed that concerning sexual harassment education in public schools, about half of the children in urban areas and 55 percent in rural areas interviewed said that they had never received any such education on preventing sexual harassment.
Investigation also said that around half of children in both urban and rural areas were willing to learn about sexual harassment at school. Others were willing to learn from parents, books or peers.
The Funds pointed out that education played an important role in preventing child sexual harassment; therefore, both school and families should take action, reported China News.
