China's two market leaders in bike-sharing -- Ofo and Mobike -- are making some changes to how they charge for their services.
Users will have to pay at least 20 yuan a month to get 2 hours of free riding per day. This means customers probably will no longer enjoy the long promotional periods the companies offered as they sought to gain market share. China's bike-sharing industry has been intensely competitive in its short history. Many companies have been forced to shut down, as competitors undercut each other on price. Mobike and Ofo expect their new pricing arrangement will finally give them some room to breathe by bringing in more revenue. They are each worth more than 10 billion yuan, or 1.5 billion dollars.
