At least 78 militants were killed and 43 others wounded in past 24 hours during a series of military operations carried out by Afghan security forces across the country, Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday, citing the Afghan Interior Ministry.
According to a statement by the ministry, Afghan National Security Forces have launched seven counter-terrorism operations to clear some areas in different provinces from militants, killing at least 78 militants within past 24 hours, and seizing weapons and ammunition.
The raids were conducted in Char Chino and Khas Uruzgan districts of Uruzgan province, Haska Meena and Shinwar districts of Nangarhar, Maiwand district of Kandahar, Ali Abad district of Kunduz and Chamtal district of Balkh province, the statement noted, without mentioning if there were any casualties on the side of the security forces.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up operations against militants recently as war-torn Afghanistan has witnessed a surge in attacks by Taliban and ISIL-affiliated fighters across the country.
