Construction site of Sino-hydro Corp. Bureau 15 in Mali attacked, Chinese personnel safe

The construction site and campsite of the Sino-hydro Corporation Engineering Bureau 15 Co., Ltd. in Mali were attacked by approximately 25 to 30 unknown armed men at around 1:00 a.m. local time on Thursday.
Chinese personnel were robbed of their personal belongings such as cellphones and laptops but no one was hurt. Construction equipment including cranes, pick-up trucks, generators and other goods and materials were burned.
The project team, situated 700km from Bamako, the capital of Mali, has closed its construction site and started to pull out of the area.
The Chinese Embassy in Mali informed Chinese enterprises in the country that they should regularly check if there are any hidden dangers, strengthen security measures, draw up emergency plans and consider temporary evacuation if necessary.
