South Korea is ready to go non-nuclear. Newly-elected President Moon Jae-in is making good on a campaign promise to wean the country off nuclear-generated power.
Moon Jae-In said the new administration will actively nurture a clean and safe energy industry including new and renewable energy and liquefied natural gas generation.
Moon decommissioned the country's oldest nuclear reactor recently after it reached the end of its 40-year lifespan. He also ordered crews to suspend work on two other reactors currently being built pending further review.
Experts have different opinions on this matter, but one thing is inevitable: consumers will have to face higher electricity costs while the country transitions to other energy sources.
