China Box Office: New record set during Spring Festival holiday
[]
China's box office has set a new global record, raking in more than 500 million US dollars in ticket sales in the first three days of the week-long Spring Festival holiday. That's more than double the record set during the Lunar New Year last year.
Chinese blockbuster "Monster Hunt 2" earned a total of 190 million dollars, the biggest opening weekend ever for a Chinese film. It also made 85 million dollars Friday -- China's biggest single day ticket sales -- beating out record holder "Fast and Furious 8". "Monster Hunt 2" wasn't the only film to find success, it was followed by "Detective Chinatown 2" and "Monkey King 3" took the third spot. Patriotic movie "Operation Red Sea" also performed well, with a commendable score of 8.5 on review website Douban.com.
