China opposes US sanctions outside UN framework

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has responded to the sanctions proposed by the US against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), labeling the restrictions as outside the UN framework.
Spokesman Lu Kang said, “We strongly urge the US to correct its error, and avoid affecting bilateral cooperation over related issues.” He added that China strictly abides by UN resolutions on the DPRK.
Lu also said China opposes any country extending its long-arm jurisdiction to Chinese entities or individuals. The White House on Thursday unveiled plans to cut off China’s Bank of Dandong from the US financial system, accusing it of assisting illegal financial activities in the DPRK’s weapons program. Related companies and individuals have also been put on the sanctions list. Lu explained that investigations are underway, based on Chinese laws and regulations.
