M6.8 earthquake shakes South Atlantic Ocean

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck the South Atlantic Ocean 490 miles from Ascension Island on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake was initially measured at magnitude 6.7 with a depth of 19 kilometers, and was revised to magnitude 6.8 and a depth of about 10 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of casualties and damage.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
