Being a mom is a lifelong career. Once you make the choice, it means a non-stop work schedule. But is being a mom the coolest job in the world, or the most challenging one? Ahead of Mother's Day, CGTN spoke to a few Chinese women who are either already mothers, or considering whether or not to have children.
"Being a mom is a job where you keep investing but never get paid. I used to be a rebellious child, so my mom must have been so exhausted."
"A mom is someone who creates for us a great environment for living and learning. She also helped shape my values."
"I grew up in a single-parent family, so my mother raised me all by herself. It was never an easy job for her."
Despite all the hardships and struggles, the moms say they have no regrets.
"I feel no regret at all because he has brought more joy than anxiety for me. I am a stay-at-home mom. This means I am on call all day long, but I can be with him and teach him more."
"The hardest part is that you have to watch him all the time. It can be extremely agonizing when he's sick. But he's so adorable and I will never regret having him."
"I had my first baby at the age of 37 and the second at 43. But I have been nourished by raising my kids and I really enjoy the process."
Nowadays, young Chinese women are joining the job market. As they gain independence, they tend to be more thoughtful on when to have babies.
"I will only consider that after 30 and it depends on whether I can find a suitable partner with whom to form a family."
"I actually want to give birth before 30, because people are always saying that the older you are, the more difficult it is to get back in shape."
"Right now I am not mature enough to be a qualified mom. So I will wait until around 28. "
While some women remain on the fence on motherhood, one thing's for sure. They're sending their best wishes to their own beloved mothers.
