In 2016, China launched Micius, the the world’s first quantum communications satellite. A year later, Chinese scientists carried out quantum entanglement experiments and the world's first quantum video call through the satellite. Nature magazine recognized Pan Jianwei, leader of the Micius program, as one of the "Ten people who mattered" in 2017. He said that quantum communication in the future will be applied in fields of finance, political affairs and national defense, and that a whole industry chain will be built and "eventually a truly secure quantum Internet".
