Graduation season is here, and students all over the world are celebrating what they've learned, and the time spent with each other. And in China, the celebrations are getting more and more expensive. CGTN's Chuck Tinte has more.
Photos, trips. Time to say goodbye. One chapter ends, and a new one begins. And for many of the Class of 2018, memories don't come cheap.
YAO YUAN QINGDAO UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 2018 "We may have dinner together with the whole class, and with the whole department. We will also hire photographer to take photos for us. The cost will be around one thousand yuan."
For most graduates, the family helps to cover the cost and prepares them for the next step. And some have saved up for months to celebrate in style.
"I earned some money. I have interned for two months, and now save some money for graduation time."
The end of school can mean gift cards, dinners, and travel. And one instructor advises caution.
XIAO YULING, ART DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTOR QINGDAO UNIVERSITY "A proper sense of ritual can form good memories of graduation. But excessive spending deviates from the original intention and may cause some students to compare. Students should focus more on life planning and prepare for their future work."
According to the survey by the China Youth Newspaper, about 40 percent of graduates spend from 1,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan, roughly between 200 to 500 dollars. The biggest expense is a big dinner. And most say it's worth it, because you only graduate once. Chuck Tinte,  CGTN.
