Writing a “love letter” was in fact a creative method started by Cheng to educate her students. After one of her students faced punishment by violating dormitory regulations, instead of asking him to write a self-reflection as teachers usually do, Cheng asked the student to write a “love letter.” /VCG Photo

“I love you all along. So if you break the rules, you also break my heart since I always care about you and expect much from you,” Cheng told the student as well as the class. “Thus, I will ask for a love letter from the ones who misbehave as a compensation of hurt.” /VCG Photo

The considerate “punishment” received positive response from students. Now, writing love letters to their teacher has become the new trend at school. “From the love letters, I saw the continuous improvement in their writing skills as well. That’s what makes me the happiest,” Cheng said. /VCG Photo
