A Philippine mayor linked to illegal drugs was killed along with at least 11 others in a police raid on Sunday.
Reynaldo Parojinog, Mayor of Ozamiz City, and his wife died during the raid on his house, while his daughter, Nova Parojinog, who is also the vice mayor of the city, was arrested. The city is some 1,100 km south to the country's capital Manila.
Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group raided Parojinog's house in San Roque Lawis at about 2:30 a.m. local time, and encountered violent resistance.
"The serving PNP personnel were met with volley of fire from their security prompting PNP personnel to retaliate," an official said in a media statement.
Drugs and firearms were found in the house.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has linked Parojinog's family to illegal drugs, a claim denied by the Parojinogs.
