Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will address the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday for the first time in nearly a decade.
A senior Palestinian official said Abbas would present a peace initiative - "based on the two-state solution". The Palestinians have been critical of Washington's controversial recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, saying it disqualifies the US from its traditional role as lead mediator.
