China firmly oppose any form of interference in Hong Kong's practice of the "One Country, Two Systems," Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday.
Ma said that the "One Country, Two Systems" policy has proven to be the best way to solve problems inherited by history, and an institutional arrangement to allow Hong Kong maintain its long-term prosperity and stability over the past two decades.
When asked about Taiwan's plan to include "Chinese history" under "East Asian history" in a new curriculum for middle schools, Ma said Taiwan's history is an integral part of the Chinese history and activities of so-called "de-sinicization" – the elimination of Chinese influence – have provoked strong indignation among people in the southeast China island region of Taiwan.
