To the 2020 Africa Nations Championship qualifiers now where regional rivals Kenya and Tanzania played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the tournament. The two sides renewed their rivalry after the Africa Cup of Nations where it was the Kenyans who came out on top. CGTN's Daniel Kijo has more.
These fans are united by one mission. Revenge. To defeat Kenya, who've beaten Tanzania in recent outings. This time round, the two teams compete for a spot in the Total African Nations Championship or CHAN 2020.
"Tanzanians are easy to beat. We defeat them every time. Even today we shall defeat them.
"We have big expectations. You know they are like our in-laws. We treat them like in-laws."
In this competition, the competing national teams must be composed of players playing in their domestic league.
DANIEL KIJO DAR ES SALAAM TANZANIA "A month after facing off at the just ended African Cup of Nations 2019 in Egypt, these familiar foes rekindle their rivalry in these important qualifiers. When they last met, Tanzania lost 3-2 to Kenya. Now today the home crowd hopes that fortune will be in their favor."
After 90 minutes and many near misses from both sides, the two teams ended the grudge match in a draw.
ETIENNE NDAYIRAGIJE TANZANIA COACH "Positive results. I saw they had willingness. If we believe and push where we ended, I believe we can get one or two goals."
The second leg takes place in a week in Kenya. Daniel Kijo, CGTN, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
