The 15th China International Film and TV Exhibition is underway in Beijing. And for the next few days, hundreds of media companies from around the world will be showcasing their products at the Beijing Exhibition Center. Organized by the country's state media broadcasters, under the umbrella of the new China Media Group, this year's event will further explore how modern technology is reshaping storytelling. Our reporter Ren Xueqian brings us more.
Phones, tablets and the internet of things have continued to transform the way information is shared and received. But how to use modern day technology to improve storytelling is one of the top concerns here at one of the biggest media events in China.
The event is hosted by the China Media Group -- a new organization formed from the mega state broadcasters China Central Television, China Global Television Network, China National Radio and China Radio International. This year's event sheds light on how Chinese media has transformed in the digital age both through increased use of new technology as well as collaborations with new partners.
SHEN JIANING GENERAL MANAGER CHINA RADIO, FILM & TELEVISION PROGRAMS EXCHANGING CENTER "This year we have set up special display sections for virtual reality, film translation, foreign embassies and an area for the Belt and Road Media Community, as well as the Film and Television Import and Export Association. Our goal is to really make this an international platform to better serve media companies from around the world."
The event has attracted some 300 media companies from 50 countries to show off their best TV series, documentaries, films and animations.
In addition to showcasing their products, exhibitors also see the event as a way to network with people in the industry and meet new clients.
DOREEN NEO CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER, MEDIACORP "It's a place for us to market our products and we do get the opportunity to meet a lot of platform owners and production companies. It's also a good opportunity for them to connect with us because we're also here with our acquisition team who actually meets with people who want to sell their products to Singapore."
XIAO BO DIGITAL RESTORATION SUPERVISOR, CHINA FILM STUDIO "It's our first time participating in the exhibition. We're looking to connect with TV production companies more because we mostly focus on film production, but the two are very similar both in terms of content and methods of production."
Sponsored by China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Film and Television, the event covers some 20-thousand square meters of the Beijing Exhibition Center and will last until this Saturday.
This year's exhibit is also the first event where China's major state-owned radio and TV broadcasters are facing the public together, as a collective team under the China Media Group since the announcement of the merger was made in March. Ren Xueqian, CGTN, Beijing.
