Under the theme "Child Care and Animal Protection", Spanish artist Antonio Segura Donat completed a wall painting on Pu Dian Road in Shanghai's Pudong District earlier this week. It's the first time the artist known as DULK has created a mural in the Chinese city. Huang Yuanqing reports.
The 35-year-old is almost finished with his mural. He calls it "Troubadours" since it represents a group of travelers moving around and discovering new places. DULK hopes people enjoy it and use their imagination to find their own meanings in the mural.
ANTONIO SEGURA DONAT ARTIST "I really like the city. People was very, very friendly. All the people was very very motivated to see the progress of the mural and that's the best. Because at least I come back home and the painting is gonna be here. If the people like it, that's the most important (thing) for me."
So far locals do like the mural.
XU ZHILIAN SHANGHAI RESIDENT "It's good and I'm really happy to see it. It shows that our city is a great metropolis."
ZHANG YUNJIA SHANGHAI RESIDENT "On one hand, it brings an artistic environment to the neighborhood. Also, the mural prevents the wall from leaking. So it's very good."
It's also part of a charity project involving 10 global artists to create murals in Shanghai. Eight of the artists will then go to rural areas in Guizhou, Yunnan and Shandong to create paintings in schools.
RACHEL QIU CSR SUPERVISOR, NIPPON PAINT CHINA HOLDINGS "In accordance with the city's commitment to culture, we hope the project will lead to more artistic areas around the city, making it a better place to live."
Since 2009, the charity project has been devoted to renovating and improving the environment of more than 300 schools in underprivileged areas. Huang Yuanqing, CGTN.
