Russia is the most engaged country in the China-led Belt and Road regional infrastructure initiative, followed by Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Vietnam, according to a ranking released by China’s State Information Center on Thursday.
Russia retained its place at the top of the Belt & Road Big Data Report 2017, and Pakistan replaced Kazakhstan in second place.
Based on data from over 200 companies, 800 think tanks and 1,000 media outlets in over 60 countries, the report features indexes covering topics including international trade, enterprises’ influence and media coverage.
It said 60 percent of countries in West Asia and North Africa rose up the rankings this year.
Most Chinese companies actively participating in the Belt and Road are based in first-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai. They are generally involved in manufacturing, construction as well as finance, while Internet companies are also increasingly getting involved, the report said.
