As part of a year-long campaign to celebrate its 70th anniversary, the United Nations kicked off a campaign honoring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, considered to be a foundational document.
The Universal Declaration is one of the most profound international agreements in human history, and has been translated into 500 languages.
It proclaims the inalienable rights of every human being.

"Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty."

According to the UN, Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

What has China done?

As a responsible country, China contributes to human rights development both domestically and internationally.
Themed "Building a Community of Shared Future for Human Beings: New Opportunity for South-South Human Rights Development," the very first South-South Human Rights Forum was held in Beijing on Thursday.
Minister of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee Huang Kunming said "the Chinese people would like to work in concert with people in other developing countries and beyond to advance development and promote human rights through cooperation via development, and build a community with a shared future for human rights."
China has also enacted a series of laws protecting human rights.
In 2015, China enacted the first national law against domestic violence. The legislation not only covers married and cohabiting couples, but also those living in foster families.

The film "Wolf Warrior 2" tells the story of a Chinese Special Forces soldier Leng Feng, who went into Africa's war-torn area and saved many Chinese and African workers with the help of Chinese government.
Based on a true story, the TV series "Last Visa" tells the  story of Chinese diplomats who made every effort to save Jews in Vienna during war time. These films emphasize the equal rights and freedoms proclaimed in the Universal Declaration.
International Human Rights Day urges people to stand up for all human rights in all kinds of aspects, to make a fairer, safer and better world for all.
