The Chinese women’s volleyball team claimed the 2017 FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup (WGCC) title on Sunday after beating Japan 3-1 in Nagoya.
Similar to their title run in 2001, China won all five of their matches to climb to the top of the podium.
Even before the game, the team had already secured their second WGCC title, holding the first place among the six teams competing in the tournament.
The team now holds three global volleyball trophies at the same time, including the 2017 World Grand Champions Cup, the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2015 World Cup. They join Brazil as the only reigning Olympic champion to win the WGCC.
Brazil secured second place after beating the US 3-0.
The tournament was held from September 5 to 10 in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. Six world teams competed, including China, US, Brazil, Russia, South Korea and Japan.
