It's been a week and a half since the Winter Olympics wrapped up in PyeongChang, but South Korea continues to be a hive of activity, as the country prepares to host the upcoming Paralympics. Cross-country skiers will be among the athletes looking to capture medals for China, and they are confident of success, on the eve of the Opening Ceremony. Damion Jones has the details.
The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics will feature 20 different cross-country skiing events -- nine for men, nine for women, and a couple of relays. China's delegation features 17 athletes who will compete in 14 categories, and after touching down in South Korea, the members of the team say they are more than ready to hit the slopes.
CHU BEIBEI CHINA CROSS-COUNTRY SKIER "We have gotten acclimated to the site in the last two days. The food here is very delicious to us Chinese athletes, and the facilities are good in all aspects, so that will help us a lot when we ski."
In addition to skiers and coaches, the team is also accompanied by professional consultants, who have helped improve their training routines.
GLENN LINDHOLM SKI WAXING EXPERT "We have prepared for those competition skiers many times, maybe three times or four times before they are ready for competitions."
Friday's Opening Ceremony will welcome approximately 670 of the world's top Paralympians to Pyeongchang for 10 days of action. Several key modifications have been made to better accommodate the athletes at the snowboarding and Alpine skiing venues, the latter of which will be the course where Liu Sitong hopes to earn success for the Chinese squad. The country's contingent includes a total of 26 participants who will compete in Alpine and cross-country skiing, as well as wheelchair curling, and for the first time in the nation's history at the Games -- biathlon and snowboarding. This is also China's largest-ever delegation at the multi-sport showpiece.
