Interview with PM Sheikh Hasina: Bangladesh prime minister on three-day visit to China

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in Beijing for a three-day official visit. She's already held talks with Premier Li Keqiang and the two sides signed seven agreements. And today, Sheikh Hasina will meet with President Xi Jinping. Our reporter Liu Yang sat down with the prime minister to discuss relations between the two countries.
LIU YANG CGTN "You have just come back from the Summer Davos. What was the biggest takeaway?"
SHEIKH HASINA BANGLADESHI PRIME MINISTER "I think the program, at this moment, was really fruitful. Many of our business community, they also come here with me, and I heard that they have also some new idea. And nowadays, the world has become a global village, so we cannot go alone, we have to work together, and how to work together, to solve problem together and give people a better life."
LIU YANG CGTN "This is your first visit to China since your re-election, what do you expect from this trip?"
SHEIKH HASINA BANGLADESHI PRIME MINISTER "Actually I was thinking to visit China, during my first tenure in 1996, when I became the prime minister, my first official visit was in China, you know we and China have a good relationship. My father visited China in 1952, and in 1957 again, so now I am here, and I am very happy. China is our friendly country, and I thank to the prime minister invited me giving me this chance."
LIU YANG CGTN "We know China is investing heavily in Bangladeshi infrastructure. Apart from infrastructure, what other fields could see more cooperation between China and Bangladesh, especially under the Belt and Road framework?"
SHEIKH HASINA BANGLADESHI PRIME MINISTER "I always think the importance of connectivity, connectivity with all of our neighbouring country. China is really collaborating with us, many Chinese companies are constructing many of our important projects. As you know that we have signed the agreement- Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor that will open the door to increase our trade, business, communication, and also develop our communication for trans-Asian highway and railway."
LIU YANG CGTN "How do you evaluate China's development in the past 70 years? What do you think China's achievements mean to Asia and the rest of the world?"
SHEIKH HASINA BANGLADESHI PRIME MINISTER "One neighbour is developed, other neighbour also receives the fruit of it. My neighbour developed so much, we can learn from them and also we can work together. Frankly speaking, when China was reborn 70 years ago, you cannot imagine what was the situation that time, but within the short period of time, the way China developed, now China become the 2nd largest economy in the world, so you must be proud of it. I congratulate you, your people, people of China, and also the government and authority, the way the leaders gave the leadership within this period China become the 2nd largest economy, it is something extraordinary achievement I must say."
LIU YANG CGTN "What would you say was the most important lessons that you learned from the previous leader- Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. And how has that kind of thinking inspired you to move forward on the road to political success?"
SHEIKH HASINA BANGLADESHI PRIME MINISTER "My father, he devoted himself for the cause of those people. We learn from him to love the country, and to love the people and the responsibility. From 2009 to 2019, now you can see the Bangladesh within 10 years, we changed. Definitely, China has shown us the way China developed. So I congratulate again for that achievement."
