Although students and teachers have just begun their summer vacation, the Palace Museum in Beijing has already seen a peak number of daily visitors. For the past week, the number of daily visitors has reached eighty thousand, the maximum number allowed. The museum suggests visitors book tickets online, to avoid being turned away at the gate.
With large numbers of visitors coming during summer vacation, the Palace Museum continues to limit the daily number allowed to eighty thousand. This method helps to better protect the relics and the buildings, and to provide a more comfortable and safe environment for visitors.
The Palace Museum frequently comes up with new exhibitions, some of which display their own relics and some of which exhibit items on loan from other museums, both from at home and abroad.
To better serve student visitors during the summer vacation, and to play an educational role, the Palace Museum will open its summer vacation classrooms for elementary and middle schoolers. From July 19th to August 16th, the museum will hold twenty-two exhibitions or activities ranging over six themes, like ancient architecture, jewelry, or royal life. Students and parents can register for activities and exhibitions on the museum's website.
From June, the Palace Museum began closing its doors the whole day on Mondays, with the exception of national holidays. It previously only closed for half a day on Mondays. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from eight-thirty am to five pm.
