Chinese authorities say they're stepping up enforcement of protecting intellectual property rights. The National Copyright Administration briefed the media on their work over the past year. CGTN's Sun Tianyuan reports.
China is beefing up protections for intellectual property rights for companies both at home and abroad. The National Copyright Administration said on Sunday that this momentum is going to continue.
SHEN CHANGYU, HEAD CHINESE COPYRIGHT ADMINISTRATION "China is determined, on its own, to protect intellectual property rights and further meet the need for innovation-driven development. To do this, we have intensified enforcement of IPR laws and regulations, and sped up new patent law amendments."
Over the last year, Chinese judicial organs have concluded over 300-thousand IPR cases. Police agencies also have rolled out the toughest ever crackdowns on copyright infringement crimes, with over 28,000 suspects arrested. Under a new patent draft amendment, malicious copyright violations will receive even more severe punishment.
SHEN CHANGYU, HEAD CHINESE COPYRIGHT ADMINISTRATION "The IPR protection problem is a global issue, in different countries, at different levels, with different forms. It's not just a Chinese problem. We are putting forth more efforts into tackling the issue. There is no ceiling for how well our work can be done; it can only get better."
Shen says the country is also mapping out a long-term strategy for 2035. The plan is expected to improve the IPR examination process by bringing it under unified management.
SUN TIANYUAN BEIJING "The administration says this year's agenda is to further push intellectual property rights protection. China has long welcomed international cooperation and exchanges to foster a better business environment. Sun Tianyuan, CGTN, Beijing."
