CBA Playoffs: Liaoning 96 - Guangdong 84
[]
We bounce along to basketball, and the CBA playoffs, as the Guangdong Southern Tigers would be at home, in desperate need of a win against the Lioaning Flying Leopards. The hosts dropped the opening two games of their semi-final series, and could ill-afford to go into a 3-o hole against Lester Hudson and the visitors, as no team in league history had been able to overcome that deficit and win a series. Early in the opening quarter, Guo Ailun almost has his pass picked off, but Hudson gets it back and nails the triple.
Then a jump cut leads to Han Dejun scoring inside to tie the game.
Later Yi Jianlian misses this attempt, but gets the rebound and slams it home, to give his side a 3-point. On the play Guangdong's Hu Mingxuan ends up on the ground going for the rebound, injuring his wrist. He would not return.
Later in the quarter Andrew Nicholson, would make his presence felt down low. The Canadian getting fouled on a pair of possessions by Han Dejun, getting the hoop on this effort.
Nicholson would pour in 20 points in the second Q, as the hosts lead by double digits.
Guo Ailun would get hot for the visitors in the third quarter hitting the triple, then gets to the cup, and brings his side within 1.
And this free throw ties the game at 60.
Liaoning go on a 13-1 run and to turn the tide in their favour -- as Hudson's basket makes it a ten-point game.
Things get chippy in the final quarter -- as Guangdong's club president Chen Haitao comes down to the court, arguing with the officials over some calls, and pushes the ref, leading to a technical foul. Then he gets to sit in these plush chairs.
Yi tries to rally Guangdong getting the fast-break basket, and is fouled in the process, but it is still a nine-point deficit.
The Flying Leopards though prove too much for the hosts, as Guo Ailun beats his man and gets to the cup to make it a 14-point lead. he would finish with 16 points on the night.
Liaoning hold on for a 96-84 victory and have a three-nothing stangle hold on the series. No team in CBA history has blown that margin in a 7-game set. Game 4 is Thursday in Guangdong.
