China opposes any challenge to its sovereignty in South China Sea

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui said Saturday China is strongly against any challenge to the country's sovereignty in the South China Sea.
Zhang made the remarks at the 6th World Peace Forum at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Zhang said the South China Sea is stable at the moment and there is no problem with free navigation. China respects freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea under principles of international law. However, a "show of force" is unwelcome in the region, the official said.
China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to resolve the territorial and jurisdictional disputes by peaceful means. The two sides also committed to the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, Zhang said.
