Fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces said they are days away from declaring victory in ISIL's de facto capital Raqqa.
A final assault on ISIL's last line of defense in Raqqa began on Sunday night. Some militants have surrendered, while others are holed up in two pockets of resistance in the city center.
The city has been the de facto Syrian capital of the terrorist group since 2014. ISIL has seen major setbacks in the region this year. They lost another major stronghold, Mosul, Iraq, in July.
