South Korea's northeastern Gangwon Province has been bombarded by heavy snowfall. About 50 centimeters of snow hit the mountainous province for two straight days from January 19, paralyzing traffic and transportation networks. Some 70 snowplows and hundreds of officials were reportedly engaged in emergency restoration work until January 22, bringing most of the major highways and local roads in the province back to normal conditions.
