Xiong'an New Area: Xiong'an to maintain local culture while improving basic infrastructure
[]
Sunday marks the first anniversary of the Xiong'an New Area. Basic infrastructure projects are already underway. Our reporter Ning Hong in Xiong'an filed this report.
The top priority in infrastructure in Xiong'an is transportation. To support development in the future, a high-speed intercity railway connecting Beijing and Xiong'an is now under construction.
YANG BIN, DIRECTOR XIONG'AN HEADQUARTERS, BEIJING-XIONG'AN RAILWAY "The project will be completed by the end of 2020, and it will reduce the commute time from Beijing to Xiong'an to 30 minutes."
In the meantime, a massive afforestation effort is now underway. The project aims to increase the forested area of Xiong'an to a stunning 50% or more.

Massive relocation efforts for current Xiong'an residents will also start soon. Although the exact number of people being relocated is still unclear, but to the east of Ranching county, one of the three counties in Xiong'an, plans for a resettlement area are now taking shape, with the first group of buildings nearing completion.
NING HONG XIONG'AN NEW AREA "While much will be different in the coming several years, some will stay unchanged, namely the local culture and tradition. City planners are doing what they can to protect the relics of the region, as a reminder to future generations of where they came from."
Hundreds of pieces of relics are being marked to either be set aside or moved later. The items relate to culture and tradition. Even ancient trees are being marked.
LI WEI, DIRECTOR XIONG'AN OFFICE, SHANGHAI TONGJI URBAN PLANNING & DESIGN INSTITUTE  "We will collect movable objects to be put on display in the future, and keep unmovable objects intact during construction work."
All of these massive projects are underway, as the changes in Xiong'an pick up speed. Ning Hong, CGTN, Xiong'an New Area.
